Pogodin S. N. was born in 1956. He has a doctorate in History, is a Professor, Member-Correspondent of International Sciences Academy of Higher Education.  Prof. Pogodin has got 36 years of work experience at the university in total.  He has been working at Peter the Great SPbPU since 1984. Prof. Pogodin is a highly qualified lecturer, has more than 200 educational, methodological and scientific works, including 7 monographs and 6 textbooks, which are   widely used   in teaching practice. Two doctoral and seven candidate theses were defended under his academic supervision in the period from 2000 to 2021.

Prof. Pogodin has been the Head of the "International Relations"Department ,the Institute of Humanities since 2000. The organization of the educational processes in the field of "Foreign Regional Studies" in the Bachelor's degree programs (Nordic countries, Spain, Germany, the People's Republic of China, the Russian Federation) and Master's degree programs (Nordic Countries, the People's Republic of China, the Russian Federation) is conducted under his leadership.  Prof. Pogodin has got the strong sense of organization, planning and leadership.

The Department opened new international training programs for foreign students: "Russian Federation" (Bachelor’s degree), "Russian Federation" (Master’s degree) at the initiative and with the most active participation of Prof. Pogodin. The opening of these programs has contributed to an increase in the number of foreign students studying at the Department; their share currently stands at 25%.

Prof. Pogodin guides research scholars at every step of their publication journey and helps them build a rewarding career in academia. The Dissertations of Wang Juntao "Forms of China's participation in international activities in the Arctic" (2016) and Zhou Jun "The political dimension of China's interaction in the Central Asian countries in the Eurasian integration structures", written under the academic supervision of  Prof. Pogodin, were highly appreciated and published as monographs.

Prof. Pogodin is the editor-in-chief of the Almanac «Russia in the Global World (34 issues have been published since 2001) and the Annual Scientific Journal “International Relations and the Dialogue of Cultures (4 issues have been published since 2012).

Prof. Pogodin received four research grants, which can be considered as the recognition of the success in his scientific activity. They are: "Historical science and methodology of history in Russia of the twentieth century" (Foundation for Education and Culture); "Figures of history or "common places" of history in Russian historiography of the second half of the XIX – early XX century" (Rosobrazovanie); Grant of the Russian Humanitarian Science Foundation (grant 15-03-00224) " China and Russia: the ideology of nationalism. Comparative Historical Analysis" (2015-2017); Grant of the Russian Humanitarian Science Foundation (grant 15-03-00488) "Formation and institutionalization of philosophy and history in Russian Universities of the XIX-early XX century. Historical and Cultural Analysis"(2015-2017).

Currently, the main direction of Prof. Pogodin's scientific research is the historiography of Russian history. He conducts research on scientific schools and trends in Russian historiography as part of this direction.

Prof. Pogodin is distinguished by a high scientific potential, bright pedagogical talent and stands out for a creative attitude to his professional activity. He demonstrates strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research and extension.

Chairman of the organizing committee of the international scientific conference "Topical Issues of International Political Geography".
