MARK BLOCH: THE FIRST WORLD WAR IN THE CONTEXT OF HISTORICAL ANTHROPOLOGY
This article is devoted to the study of the image of World War I in the context of the formation of the methodology of the school of historical anthropology. The analysis is carried out by reference to the legacy of one of the founding fathers of historical anthropology and the journal "Annals" Martin Block, who, as a veteran of two World Wars, was thinking about them in comparative perspective. World War I is analyzed by the French scientist through the prism of his personal impressions and memories: he testifies, and as a direct participant in these events, and as a historian, adequately responding to the challenges of modernity. The author believes that the M. Block was able to build a fairly well-reasoned line of historical and anthropological continuity between the two World Wars. The conclusion is that in the writings of the French historian created multi-faceted, full of anthropological characteristics of canvas event World War I, which is viewed through the prism of the causes and factors "strange defeat» of France in 1940.
