The article discusses various conceptual approaches to understanding the nature of the transformation of the world political system from the West-centric to the polycentric type of development. In this connection, the debatable problems of a conceptual nature about the need for integrative development of the theory of international relations are analyzed, where the field of scientific reflection includes both Western and non-Western approaches to understanding the multifactor and ambiguity of international relations in the 21st century.
