CLEMENT OF ALEXANDRIA AND ORIGEN: HISTORY AS PAIDEIA

Authors:
Abstract:

Views of Clement of Alexandria and Origen of Alexandria regarding the relation between history and the essence of education as a way to “Christian gnosis” are compared. As the two authors study this question in the context of the Christian doctrine of God’s incarnation, both the world history and the personal experience of God are seen as the means of approaching the fullness of timeless unity of creation with the Creator, i.e. as the process of education (paideia).
