CITIZENSHIP LEGISLATION AND STATELESSNESS IN MODERN TURKEY

Abstract:

The article examines some specifics of the citizenship legislation in Turkey, with special focus on legal status of apatrides and refugees. Main international conventions concerning their rights in connection with Turkish legislation are mentioned in the paper. The author briefly considers some provisions in the Turkish legislation concerning refugees. The Turkey’s asylum policy is illustrated by the Syrian emergency. The article argues that the Turkish experience in protection and assistance to the Syrian refugees could be useful for the whole Asian continent.
