The article discusses the scientific and pedagogical activity of the doctor of historical sciences, Professor Sergei N. Pogodin, the main topics of his research, Russian historiography, international relations, migration, problems of formation of national consciousness and others. The characteristic of his lecture courses and educational works. There have been achievements on creation of the Department of International Relations, St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University.
